Martin Finnegan was an Irish professional motorcycle road racer born on June 5, 1978, in Lusk, County Dublin, Ireland. He began his career in the 125cc class in 1999 but quickly moved up to the Supersport category in 2000 where he enjoyed considerable success. In 2003, he made his debut in the Superbike world championship with a wildcard ride in his native Ireland.
Finnegan's career highlight came in 2005 when he won the Isle of Man TT Superbike race, becoming the first Irish rider to take that crown since Joey Dunlop in 2000. He was also a front-runner in the British Superbike Championship, claiming seven podium finishes in his career.
Tragically, Finnegan lost his life in a crash during a practice session for the Skerries 100 race in 2008. He was just 30 years old at the time of his death, and his passing was a huge loss for the motorcycle racing community both in Ireland and around the world. Finnegan is fondly remembered for his speed, skill, and sportsmanship on the track and remains a beloved figure among fans of the sport.
